ऐसा इसलिए हुआ है कि भारत सरकार सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म के लिए एक नए नियम पर विचार कर रही है। अगर वो नियम लागू हो जाता है तो यूजर्स को व्हाट्सऐप की सर्विस पंसद नहीं आएगी और शायद भारत में व्हाट्सऐप बंद भी हो सकता है। दरअसल, भारत में व्हाट्सऐप के जरिए फेक न्यूज का सिलसिला दिन-प्रतिदिन बढ़ता ही जा रहा है। इसकी वजह से कई तरह की अफवाहें फैल रही हैं।

खासतौर पर इस वक्त आम चुनाव आने वाले हैं और इस वजह से व्हाट्सऐप के जरिए गलत और झूठ को फैलाने का काम बढ़ गया है। ऐसे में सरकार इसपर कुछ नए कदम उठाने के बारे में सोच रही है। दरअसल, व्हाट्सऐप अपने यूजर्स के मैसेजों की गोपनियता बनाए रखने के लिए एक प्रक्रिया का पालन करती है, जिसे एंड-टू-एंड एनक्रिप्शन कहते हैं। इस प्रक्रिया की वजह से भेजने वाले संदेश को प्राप्तकर्ता के अलावा कोई भी पढ़ नहीं सकता है। यहां तक किस व्हाट्सऐप कंपनी खुद भी किसी दो यूजर्स के बीच की चैटिंग को पढ़ नहीं सकती है।

ऐसे में गलत खबर फैलाने वाले लोग बचकर निकल जाते हैं। भारत सरकार इस प्रक्रिया को हटाना चाहती है ताकि फेक न्यूज फैलाने वाले लोगों को पकड़ा जा सके। इसपर व्हाट्सऐप का कहना है कि एंड-टू-एंड एनक्रिप्शन के बिना व्हाट्सऐप पूरी तरह से एक नया प्रॉडक्ट बन जाएगा।
इस मसले में व्हाट्सऐप के संचार विभाग के अधिकारी हेड कार्ल वूग ने एक समाचार एजेंसी से बातचीत के दौरान बताया कि, “भारत सरकार द्वारा प्रस्तावित नियमों में सबसे ज्यादा चिंता का विषय, मैसेजों का पता लगाने पर जोर देना है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार द्वारा प्रस्तावित बदलाव जो लागू होने जा रहे हैं, वह मजबूत गोपनियता सुरक्षा के अनुकूल नहीं है, जिसे दुनियाभर के यूजर्स चाहते हैं।
