वाशिंगटन। भारतीय मूल के अमेरिकी सिख गुरिंदर सिंह खालसा के जीवन पर बनी लघु फिल्म ‘सिंह’ ने मोंटाना में आयोजित ‘कोवेलिट इंटरनेशनल फिल्म फेस्टिवल’ में ‘शॉर्ट फिल्म ऑफ द इयर’ पुरस्कार जीता है। फिल्म उत्सव के आयोजकों की ओर से बुधवार को जारी बयान में यह जानकारी दी गई।

जेना रूइज द्वारा निर्देशित इस फिल्म ने इस श्रेणी के लिए दावेदार 100 फिल्म को पीछे छोड़कर यह पुरस्कार हासिल किया है। फिल्म ‘सिंह’ गुरिंदर सिंह खालसा के जीवन की उस घटना पर आधारित है जिसमें उन्हें पगड़ी उतारे बिना विमान में जाने की इजाजत नहीं दी गई थी। यह घटना मई 2007 की है। इस लघु फिल्म में दिखाया गया है कि गुरिंदर को अपनी धार्मिक आस्था और अंतिम सांसे गिन रही अपनी मां से मिलने के लिए विमान पकड़ने के बीच कोई विकल्प चुनना था। इस फिल्म का ‘कोवेलिट इंटरनेशनल फिल्म फेस्टिवल’ ने ‘इंडी शॉर्ट इंटरनेशनल फिल्म फेस्टिवल’ के लिए आधिकरिक रूप से चयन किया है। ‘इंडी शॉर्ट्स’ इंडियानापोलिस में जुलाई 25 से 28 के बीच विश्व भर की फिल्में दिखाएगा।
